Joe McCarthy comes to Nashoba Regional having previously taught in the Northbridge Public Schools. Mr. McCarthy is originally from Westminster, Massachusetts but has since relocated to Hudson, Massachusetts, with his wife, Deanna and daughter Lillyanna. He is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts Lowell with an undergraduate degree in Trumpet Performance with a focus in Music Education. He has also earned a Masters degree in Music Education from the University of Massachusetts Lowell.
Mr. McCarthy has been actively involved in music and music education for more than 20 years earning multiple performance awards and education awards. While in college, he became president of UMass Lowell’s Music Educator’s National club. During his tenure with the club, he helped the club earn national recognition on two separate occasions.
As a performer, Mr. McCarthy has achieved principal trumpet for the UMass Lowell Concert Band, Wind Ensemble, Orchestra, Jazz Band, and Marching Band. He has also had the distinct pleasure of performing with the Boston based band Drop Kick Murphys for their St. Patrick’s Day concert as well as the Worcester classic rock band, Jay Geils Band at their Fenway Park concert. Mr. McCarthy has also performed with the Worcester based Russo Brothers quintet. During the summers, you can find him performing with the Leominster Colonial Concert band at Carter Park on Tuesday evenings. He has also performed in 42 different states with the Spartans Drum and Bugle Corps, out of Nashua, NH as well as the Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps from Allentown, PA.
Mr. McCarthy is a member of the National Association for Music Educators, Massachusetts Judges Association, Massachusetts Instrumental and Choral Conductors Association, and is actively involved with the MMEA All State Conference.
